In order for Laura to have a healthy baby, she needs to have a healthy lifestyle while pregnant. Truthfully, having a healthy lifestyle before getting pregnant would have helped too. However, Heather needs to inform Laura of FAS. This can have a huge negative effect on the child, if the alcohol reaches the child during a critical stage of development. Unfortunately, it is currently impossible to know for sure when that critical period is, so the only safe alternative is to quit drinking entirely while pregnant. The same is true for smoking, the exact critical period is unknown so one must quit the habit for the safety of the child. Also, exercising is important for a healthy baby. In conjunction with exercise, the mother must be sufficiently nourished. Otherwise the developing child will not receive adequate nourishment, and, therefore, developmental problems will occur. I would suggest that Laura gets into a regular active routine with exercise and proper diet. In addition, she should avoid her previous activities of smoking and drinking while pregnant with the child. Also, she should avoid stressful situations.
The first thing i would do is explain to Laura the possible affects all of the harmful teratogens could do to her baby in the future. Her current lifestyle could ruin the life of her child or the fact that she could lose her child The best activities for Laura to adopt would first to stop drinking and smoking completely. Drinking could lead to her child
having fetal alcohol syndrome which can affect them there whole life. It even affects there physical appearance. I would also recommend that Laura start exercising regularly. Even if it is walking for 30 minutes a day. Exercise is important to stay healthy. The final thing i would do is get Laura eating healthy to keep the baby healthy.
