Research design
I would like to study the effects of performance in school from students who came from a divorced family. My hypothesis would be that students who do come from divorced families do not perform as well as those students who come from families where both the parents are still married to each other. I would use a longitudinal study. I would study a group of 5 year olds who come from divorced families over there elementary, middle, and high school years. I would also have a control group of students who do not come from divorced families. The independent variable for this study would be students coming from families where the parents are divorced. The dependent variable would be the students grades.

Rachael,
This would be a great study to conduct. I came from a divorced family and i know when my parents were divorced in elementary school it did have an effect on my school work. However, in high school and in college i feel like i have done well. This would be a good study to conduct though!
I agree that this would be grat study to do. I came from a divorced family and I know when I was middle school I was having a hard time. Plus on top of that 9-11 happened as well. Also another thing that might be interesting is to see how kids would react if one or both of the parents got remarried. That happened to me and I also had a hard time, but I have come a long way to where I am now.
i think that this would be a great study to conduct, especially now that we see alot of children with divorced families
Great idea! Something else that would be interesting to test with that in addition to is the childrens age of when the parents are going through the divorce. It would be interesting to see how a divorce affects a certain age group of children. Such as kindergarten to third grade vs 9th grade to 12th grade. Just a thought.
