research project

While working on an assignment for my Methods of Reading class, I noticed that children seemed to lose interest in reading around the same time that the style of teaching changed. I am not saying that the teaching style caused the dislike, but I think there is a strong correlation between the two. My project would be a longitudinal, and would follow a group of students during first grade through high school. There would be a control group who would be taught the same exact way other students are currently taught to read, and an experimental group who would be taught the old fashioned way. Hopefully this would show what the correlation between the two teaching styles and interest in reading is.

I would have particular interest in this study because as a child I hated to have to sit down and read. I was not very good at it for the longest time and it wasnt until the tail end of high school and into college that I actually began to enjoy reading for pleasure and not just because I was forced to for school and study purposes. Good idea!
