i believe that there is a negative correlation between the age of children when there parents divorce and the likelyhood that the child will divorce. in other words, the younger a child is when their parents divorce the greater the chance for their own divorce in the future and visa versa.
to conduct such an experiment it would need a longitudinal study of children 5, 10, and 15 with parents recently divorced. the subjects would need to be followed every 5 years to track relationship, marriage and possibly divorce status. there should also be a control group involved for each of the experiment groups; this will ensure that the data collected is prevalent to divorce rates or just a shift in culture.
the variables involved include: socioeconomic status, number of children in the original family, culture, age, and sex.
the idea is to measure the strength of marriage/divorce in the children exposed to divorce at a young age.

I think that your study would have some very fascinating results. I’m guessing that their would be a strong positive correlation between the number of children of divorced parents and the number of those children getting divorced themselves later in life.

I agree with Kris that there would be a strong positive correlation in children of divorced parents getting divorced themselves later in life. However, I wonder how the parents' possible remarriage (whether positive or negative) would affect the results.

I think the attitudes and parenting styles used by the parents would have a stronger affect on the likelyhood that a child eventually gets devorced, more so than the age the child was at the time of the devorce of his/her parents. However, I do admit you could be right, maybe there is a significant relationship

This really would be an interesting study and I think could really help people make the decision weather or not their marriage (or lack thereof) is strong enough to have children.
