assignment 10

I believe that schools need to give more rewards for drug free students. As we have learned in this class so far, people tend to do things more effectively if they know they will be receiving something. Also, i believe hat there needs to be more drug programs such as D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. Another effective way to prevent kids from doing drugs would be to make more sever punishments for those students who get caught with drugs and alcohol. This would set an example for others in the school and hopefully keep drugs out of the school, and away from the students.

I agree with you about the D.A.R.E and G.R.E.A.T programs. These drug free campaigns were presented in my elementary and middle school, and were overall very effective for informing kids about the dangers of drugs, and how to avoid them.

I had the DARE program and it is a good idea, however research has shown that these programs are mostly ineffective. Its a good idea to reward and punish based on drug use but because so much of it goes without notice, that would be really hard to do. Probably the most effective way would be to educate parents, I think most kids will chose to use drugs largely on what their parents teach/show them is appropriate. I know that this also would be really hard to administer but combined with your other ideas maybe it would be a start.

i also agree bout the D.A.R.E programs bc i had them in elementary and they were good and worked on some kids but others didnt care and for those kids they need something to make them realize.

those are great ways to reduce drug use. I believe we spend too much time just punishing when if we reward drug free students the others can learn from example in a positive way!
